Short Story No. 5

Odd Tuesday
Zorlone
August 21, 2010

The story entitled "Odd Tuesday" was a story written by Zorlone. It is a flash fiction type of story. The story is nice because it is has values injected in it. I like it also because he minimize the use of words, its straight to the point and his writing style was also. Maybe it just matched my kind of story that I'm looking for. The story was about a Rich businessman named Alfred who gave a dollar to an unknown beggar who is begging him for money because he haven't eaten 6 meals already.
The setting in the story took place in a Bank in which the two characters in the story met. I had been to a bank but never had been encountered a beggar outside of it and never given a single penny to a beggar. I don't go often to a bank for I don't have a bank account however, a bank is always clean and has a nice scent inside that's why I love to enter a bank.
The main character in the story was Alfred, the rich business man. It is stated in the story that he had a huge comeback in life which is from rags to riches. It took ten years to achieve his financially equipped life. I like his personality as a persevering men, because like me I like to persevere in life also but one thing I don't like about him is that he easily give in to the emotion of other people. He doesn't realize his hardships making his life to be successful. Not knowing after he gave the beggar the dollar but on his way out, he saw the beggar entered again in the bank.
Other character in the story is basically the beggar, all I can say to him is that he is being ignorant, for he knows that there are many ways to earn money. Its not just right to put yourself on the streets just to ask money.
I liked Alfred for he is a persevering businessman, maybe a hard worker. The kind of person who likes grinding his time maybe. However there are also things that I didn't like about him, its his attitude that is easily convinced.
The story started when the author introduced both of the characters, Alfred and the beggar. Next they bumped into each other and the beggar begged for money.
Then, Alfred gave a dollar to the beggar, for he said that he haven't eaten 6 meals already. The beggar was not satisfied and asked again for another dollar, Alfred gave him.
The ending was expected injected a value at me. After Alfred had finished this transaction on the bank on his way out, he saw the beggar entered again. It was expected for the beggar to come enter again for its not something new. A beggar will always a beggar and what to beggars do? They always beg for money. Its hard to change the perception of a beggar for they think that they are already down in life. They think that the only way that they can do is just roam around the streets and asked money from anyone that they could bumped into.
My perception towards a beggar have somehow leveled up for I just learned that a beggar will always be a beggar.
The story is trying to tell us that we should never let our guards down and our perception towards people will always be high no matter what. We should know the motives of a certain person before we should be close to them but most important of all, dont' be deceive by the looks.
I liked this story aside from the fact that it minimize the use of words and is very short and straight to the point but the lesson that it has was very essential to humanity nowadays. This story could serve as an eye opener towards their perception to beggars not just only beggars but also to newly met persons.
